In the shadowy streets of Basel, a series of inexplicable deaths captures the attention of the city. As people inexplicably drop dead, the anxiety among officials rises, prompting serious discussions about cancelling the much-anticipated carnival. Professor Rüegg and cantonal doctor Zäslin grapple with the enigma, while Andreas Zinstag, Rüegg's assistant, enlists the help of his retired doctor uncle, Jean-Jacques Zinstag. Together, they delve into a chilling theory: the deaths may not stem from a known illness, but rather from a sinister, otherworldly presence—the Grim Reaper himself, reminiscent of the haunting Dance of Death. As the festival approaches, the race against time begins to unveil the truth behind the looming specter of death.
